A letter from the president

Friends and Colleagues,
Well, it seems it's over as quickly as it started. It has been an honor serving all of you as president of the AAEC. It has certainly been an eventful year. My first letter to you as president broke the news that the AAEC had lost $44,000 on the 50th anniversary convention in Washington D.C.

I'm pleased to say that, while we still have a ways to go, we have made significant progress in making that up. PNA agreed to several months of free service, which saved us about $14,000.

Also, thanks to a very successful drive for sponsorship support for this year's convention, lower than expected food and beverage costs, and very strict budget discipline, we came in $6,000 in the black for the San Antonio convention.

Speaking of the convention, it was a great one. Special thanks to John Branch who found extra sponsorship to bring in some of the best live-music acts I've seen in years. If you missed the convention in San Antonio, you have my sympathies. You missed a great party.

All things considered, we are in much better financial shape than when I started. In fact, I am so drunk with hubris that I have ordered a preemptive, unilateral invasion of the NCS. We can raid their coffers and all our remaining financial problems will be over. We'll export our superior form of governance and change the cartooning world. The post-invasion reconstruction will pay for itself. We'll be greeted as liberators.

Best,
Nick Anderson
AAEC Prez
