I began drawing political cartoons in 1960 for the Okinawa Morning Star, a civilian-owned English language daily, while serving with the Army on Okinawa. I took my discharge there and went to work for the Star full-time as editorial-page cartoonist and night news editor. I conned my way into a daily political cartoon on the Free Press Feature Page and in 1976 The Detroit News offered me a position as a full-time cartoonist. I drew . . .

We have two daughters, more wonderful than I deserve, who try to shelter their friends from my humor, cartoons, and opinions, but I end up speaking at their schools too often for that to work.
I never thought about being a cartoonist. I wanted to be a “serious” illustrator and worked toward that goal for many years. What I found is that good . . .

Born in the depths of the baby boom, Signe Wilkinson graduated from her suburban high school about the same time the SAT scores began their slide. Barely acquiring a coveted B.A. in English from a Western university of middling academic reputation, Wilkinson found a job in the only profession that would have her--journalism. She worked as a stringer for the King of Prussia, Daily Post, and the West Chester Daily Local News before joining a mission to bring peace to the island of Cyprus. Nine months later, war broke out.
Back home, she moved into Philadelphia for . . .
